Growing up between London and the Bronx, the artist born as Michael Jordan Bonema ponders upon the worldliness of city life in a gritty, smooth, vulnerable, loose rap strengthened by his soulful productions (dj blackpower his alias as producer). He's inspired by the likes of King Krule, MF Doom and his mentor Earl Sweatshirt, who praised him on his 2018 album "Some Rap Songs". Since 2015 MIKE has released a stream of mixtapes on Bandcamp, covering topics such as mental health, resistance and black identity, which have made him the spearhead of modern New York underground rap. Last December he released his 8th album “Beware of the Monkey”. A superb work meditating on loss and grief, bringing a new breath to the ongoing conversation about Success in American society, while celebrating family, friendships and being alive.
