New Music Encounters with GMCL and Adriana João, FARWARMTH, Joana de Sá e Miguel Abras
Following the work developed with the Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa in the 2021 and 2022 editions, and the commitment to regenerating the avant-garde teachings of its co-founder Jorge Peixinho, we once again challenge four young Portuguese composers of experimental electronic music, whose common ground is self-education and intuition, for artistic collaboration with the Group. Adriana João, FARWARMTH, Joana de Sá and Miguel Abras undertake with the Group and its Artistic Director and Conductor the process of putting in writing the orchestration of electro-acoustic musical pieces of their authorship to be interpreted live by the GMCL.
Adriana João lived in Portimão until moving to Lisbon in 2016. Her transdisciplinary work blends moving image, sound, performance, sculpture, photography, and installation, seemingly inspired by the ambiguous nuances of daily life, which, with regard to sound and music, results in a kind of environmental ephemerality.

FARMWARMTH became known through the Soul Feeder platform and published 3 years ago the fearless “Momentary Glow” on the historic Planet Mu. He has also composed music for short films, audio-visual installations, exhibitions and TV. Bronze at night, silver at dawn, copper at twilight, his electronic music is grandly romantic like the aura of Trás-os-Montes where he grew up.

Joana de Sá is a sound artist from Viseu who explores textural sounds, from field recordings, articulated with melodic repetitions made from guitar, synthesizer or voice. Joana put out the first album “Shatter” last year in the Portuguese label Sirr-ecords. Music of telluric filigree, it serenely inquisits the affairs of the soul.

Miguel Abras is a musician and poet from Lisbon who presents himself as rooted in the multi-polarization of the capital's music-bohemian SCENE, open to a range of repertoires; from pop to noise, through which he honed techno-lyrical manipulation techniques. He highlights, in his artistic curriculum, the collaborative works with the collective of which he is part of, Cafetra Records (Putas Bêbadas, Maria Reis, Sallim and Éme), Gabriel Ferrandini, Pedro Sousa (Má Estrela) and Arena Ensemble (composer of the original music of the play “Selvagem” by Marco Martins).
